Diabetes Day with the Cooking Bus

It was the third visit for Yorkshire & Humberside’s Cooking Bus, a hi-tech mobile kitchen that travels to schools in the region so that teachers and youngsters with limited or no facilities of their own, can learn cooking skills.
This time, it was the turn of the Diabetes Team from Scunthorpe General Hospital (also on their third visit to us) with just short of 30 young people aged from 6 to 16. They had the chance to put together three different dishes on the Cooking Bus in the first half of the session. In the second half, their time was divided between Football in the Community (FITC) and ourselves. With FITC they experienced team games, soccer skills and multisports activities. Activities at the Study Centre enabled them to bring home a music CD that the youngsters had mastered themselves along with a custom designed t-shirt.
The combination of two of our best events lead to a superb day for all involved as you can see from the photos and in all honesty left us wondering how to top it next year! Thanks to everyone who took part in the day.
